The Real Thing is the pilot for the series. It's original airdate is November 20, 1999. There is a new NASCAR Unlimited Series, and Team Fastex owner Jack Fassler has hired four racers, Mark "Charger" McCutchen, Steve "Sharp" Flyer, and Carlos "Stunts" Rey. He fired Lyle "The Collector" Owens for disruptive racing, who seeks a contract with Fassler's nemesis, Garner Rexton. He spies on Fassler, who has finished the prototype cars. While Flyer drives his, he loses control on the track


  • In the beginning of the episode, When Lyle Owens and Mark McCutchen are fighting one another, Douglas Danaka says a line while pulling them apart:

"Who do you think you guys are, Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison?!"

This Line refers to two rea life NASCAR Drivers who had in the beginning of the 1979 season, gotten into a fist fight with eachother at the end of the Daytona 500. It's one of the two NASCAR "easter eggs" found in the show.

  • In the scene in the Media Center, where the drivers are chatting with reporters and sponsors, there is footage played on several tv screens that portay real life NASCAR Driving. Specifically what race as well as the year is a mystery.
